Our oprinion:
LED light sources for macro work have a big advantage over conventional electronic flash as they are 'always on' meaning that the digital or film SLR photographer can finesse the lighting and take care of reflections, before taking the shot. Furthermore, manual focusing with continuous light is much easier and ultra-precise.
The new Seagull unit is unusual in that it is a ringflash and continuous light at the same time making it great for increased flash lighting on stills or videos; a true LED macro ring light system can be obtained at a truly affordable price.
It contains a two part unit - a) the ring light which simply affixes to the filter thread of the lens b) the controller processor unit which connects to the DSLR/SLR's hot shoe.
No adjustments are necessary to the DSLR/SLR's integral auto exposure or AF systems.
