If you want the power of black and white with the convenience of colour, try Kodak Professional BW400CN Film.
Its fine grain, outstanding highlight and shadow detail, and smooth, neutral tone scale make BW400CN the perfect choice for today s discerning photographers. It is essentially a replacement for the old TMAX 400CN and the more recent Portra 400BW (which it resembles most).
Principally this is a monochrome film that is processed in C41 colour chemistry or to put it another way, 'wherever your colour print film is dropped off for processing'. It prints just like Tri-X with a soft neutral black.
In tests, we found it to be the finest grain C41 monochrome film available even beating XP2. Shooting at 1/500th using f8/f16 for British autumnal scenes produced cracking results. Being Devil s Advocate (and a truthful retailer), we will also add a caveat. All C41 films however are less suitable for most low contrast situations.
You can print on normal multigrade papers once developed, but we had to print at harder than normal grades to get a good result. You should ideally print on RA4 colour paper for best results.
