Hewlett Packard describes their new ink jet printer as, 'The perfect printer for passionate hobbyists and advanced amateur photographers creating professional-quality photos, training students and producing other image rich materials.'

The Pro B8850, which uses the eight-ink pigment-based HP Vivera professional ink system, produces archival photos in sizes that range from 3.5 x 5 inches to A3+ - at home, in the studio or classroom. A 4 x 6 inch print is possible in 10 seconds at 4,800 dpi. Documents with text can be printed at 26 ppm for colour.

This printer is basically a 'down-specified' version of the B9180. It uses the same ink-set (inks are twice the quantity of Epson) and is £80 cheaper. So what do you not get that is on the B9180? Well there is no display panel, just three control panel buttons and ink level indicators. Also there is no Ethernet socket for network printing and finally the accepted media thickness is less at 0.7mm - although this is not really an issue.
