The DPA Digital Print Tuner lets you really take control of your inkjet printer. As a low-cost alternative to the DISC 1 opposite, it s a simple, image-based method of achieving perfect prints - consistently and with minimum paper wastage.
We really like the clear-cut way it harmonizes the calibration of your scanner, the settings on your monitor and printer, and the paper and inks being used. It is based on the principle that darkroom printers have been using for years: printing a test strip, observing the discrepancy from what was required and making the necessary adjustments before making the final print. Colour printers have tended to use a ringaround for this purpose (showing the effects of different degrees of colour bias), and this system is very similar, although allowing for the wider range of controls over the finished print that have become available to the digital photographer.
Designed for photographers rather than computer buffs, it does not require you to calibrate the elements of your system, nor does it require any understanding of complex profiling systems. The heart of the package comprises four suites of tuning files - for portrait, landscape, RGB monochrome and greyscale prints - and a general test sheet, giving you control over your printer output whatever your subject and allowing you to change paper at will.
