"The CMYK Variable Contrast Test Print Aid dispenses with lengthy trial and error test prints by making a single test showing your negative printed at all five contrast grades at once. You then simply choose the grade that best reproduces your negative, as you would like to see the final print.
It allows you to have a test of two different exposures and all five grades on a single 5 x 4 inch paper. Its operation is simple. You set your enlarger timer to, for example, 20 seconds at f8. Expose the negative in the enlarger onto a piece of paper under the aid. Cover one half of the grid and expose again giving you two exposures of one at 20 seconds and the other 40 seconds and grade choice of 1,2,3,4,5, for each exposure. It works with Ilford, Kentmere or Kodak papers.
We suggest using the Variable Contrast Paper Test Print Aid in conjunction with the CMYK Exposure Test Print Aid. It looks like the VCPTA but after choosing your grade of paper will allow you to choose ten different exposure times from a single 5 x 4 piece of paper too.
P.S. If you are a colour printer you may also like to look at our Colour Print Filter Selection Aid which allows a choice of 10 ""starting"" filter settings on a single piece of 5 x 7 inch paper.
