Our opinion:

A good graphic tablet is essential for anyone doing a lot of image editing - as a mouse will not nearly give you the precision, control or functionality that a graphic pen can. There are only a few companies that produce graphic tablets - but Wacom is the market leader with a string of awards and firsts to its name.

Intuos4 are Wacom’s top-of-the range tablets, designed for the serious amateur and professional user. From spring 2010, the Intuous4 range will be updated with a wireless tablet.

The new Wireless tablet is almost the size of a medium tablet (minus 7mm in width, 1mm in depth but an extra 3mm in height, to be exact). Given the additional technology in this tablet, the loss of working area seems surprisingly small.

However, is it important for a graphics tablet to be wireless?

Having used graphic tablets for almost a decade now, I would be glad to loose the cable at the back. You often need to swap the keyboard, mouse and graphic tablet around on your desk, depending on whether you will be image editing or writing an email - and the wire of the tablet is limiting - and not particularly attractive on the desk either. Would it be worth the extra GBP30 in price difference between the Intuos4 Medium and the Wireless to loose the cable? Definitely!

Highly recommended *****
