Sensor sizes of compact cameras are getting bigger

One area where size does matter is in camera sensors - and lately, compact cameras are catching up on the DSLRs. Fuji's X series started this trend, and now Canons new G1 X (to be released in February 2011) joins in with a sensor that is staggeringly large for a compact camera.

Of course, lens quality and the camera's dynamic range are the other major players in determining the final image quality - but if you are wondering why you are not getting the results from your camera that you were hoping for, keep an eye on the sensor size too.

To make this job easier, we've created a graphical comparison of today's camera's sensor sizes, which we will be available on our PDF download page, on the "Help" section.
